Specifications: Track Master Picture Hanger

Ingeniously simple, Track Master Hangers consist of a 5" or 8" long flanged plastic plate that is attached to the wall with three (3) 1 3/8" x 16 nails. A support track at the top edge of the Track Master plate fits snugly into the channel on the back side of a metal frame's top rail and holds the frame tightly in place on the wall. No hanging hardware is required on the frame itself.

The Track Master Hangers we offer are for metal frames only.

For wood frames, please see our section on Cleat Hangers.

5" and 8" Track Master Metal Frame Hangers

The 5" long Track Master can be used for hanging metal frames up to about 24" wide. The 8" long Track Master should be used for metal frames more than 24" wide. On very wide pictures, or for extra stability, two Track Master Hangers can be used, spaced an appropriate distance apart, rather than just one located at the middle of the frame. When using two Track Masters on one frame, make sure that the hangers are installed level to each other as well as individually level on the wall.

Maximum Picture Weight: Do not hang pictures weighing more than 25 lbs. on Track Master Hangers.

If you have heavier metal frames, please see our page on Light-Duty Cleat Hangers.

Bubble-Level Vials

On the front face of each Track Master Hanger there is a small built-in shelf that accepts a 1" long bubble-level vial. Using one of these bubble vials helps level the hanger on the wall during installation. The vial is removed once the hanger has been completely installed--it snaps in and out easily so that it can be used on the next hanger.

One bubble-level vial is always included free of charge with every Track Master Hanger order.

Only one free bubble vial will be included with each Track Master Hanger order, regardless of the number of hangers ordered.

Some professional installers find Track Master bubble-level vials useful for Track Master Hanger installations; others prefer to use a standard "torpedo" type level instead. We always include one bubble vial with each order of Track Master Hangers at no charge. If you need extras, they can be purchased individually as HWR-103.

Optional Anchors & Screws

Both sizes of Track Master Hangers have two countersunk holes that allow for screw mounting. Screws are optional. Properly installed with the three (3) 1 3/8" x 16 nails provided, a Track Master Hanger will support a metal frame weighing up to 25 pounds. However, screws can be used instead of--or in addition to--these nails to supplement Track Master's holding power.

For drywall installations we offer a set of screws and plastic anchors packaged for the Track Master that can be purchased separately. Order one HWR-107 for each Track Master you want to install into drywall using screws.

One important advantage of the Track Master Hanger over conventional hanging systems is that the Track Master Hanger permits considerable left-to-right adjustment of a frame after it has been hung. This feature is very helpful when you are hanging a group of pictures in a row--down a long hallway for example--where the spacing between each picture needs to be accurate and consistent.

Another nice feature of this system is that metal frames hung with Track Master Hangers lay very tight and flat against the wall, creating a neat appearance with no outward lean from the wall at the top of the frame.

Track Master Hangers are very easy to remove from the wall. The hangers and nails can be reused after removal as long as they have not been damaged.

Track Master Hangers cause very little damage to walls. When a hanger is removed, only three small nails holes remain.

To hang a metal frame on a Track Master Hanger, you position the frame at about a 45° angle to the wall with the top edge just above the hanger, slide the frame down the wall until the Track Master support track engages the back channel of the frame's top rail, then drop the bottom of the frame down in place against the wall. That's it.

To remove a frame, you first pivot its bottom edge out and away from the wall, then lift its top edge up and out of the Track Master support track.

Please Note

Only one bubble-level vial is included with each order for Track Master Hangers, regardless of the hanger quantity ordered. If you need extra bubble-level vials (they are small and tend to get lost), they can be purchased individually above.

Track Master Hangers are not a security hanging (picture locking) system. For security picture hanging hardware, go here.

Technical Note on Using Track Master Hangers with Metal Frames

Track Master Hangers will fit on all currently manufactured metal frames generically designated as #11 Profile moulding. This includes the metal moulding currently made by Nielsen, Clark, Designer, Alumaframe, Global Art, MCS, Decor and most OEM manufacturers. The #11 Profile category (and compatible profiles) constitute probably 95% of the current metal moulding market.

If you are installing older metal-framed pictures, you should be aware that metal frame moulding design has evolved over the years and the Track Master support track may not fit inside the back channel of certain older, now obsolete style metal frames (typically pre-1980 manufacture).

There are a small number of these older extrusion profiles still being made, the so-called #186 Profile and #444 Profile. These profiles have a narrower back channel, measuring about 1/4" wide, compared to the standard 3/8" wide universal channel of the #11 Profile. Track Master Hangers will not fit on #186 or #444 profile metal frame moulding.

Track Masters will not fit on low-end crimped corner metal frames (also called "back-load" or "back-loaded" frames). Back-loaded metal frames do not have a back channel at all and look like this at the corners.

Finally, Track Masters will not fit if the metal frame's universal channel is not located at the very outer edge of the frame. The bottom corner sample shown here illustrates this exception: the profile shown at the top will fit; the profile shown at the bottom will not. Only a few wide profile metal frames currently made present this problem.

As long as the corner hardware and channel on the back side of your metal frame looks like this and the channel is 3/8" wide, Track Master Hangers will fit.

Instructions: Track Master Picture Hanger

ATTACH HARDWARE
  1. Position the frame on the wall and lightly mark the wall with a pencil at the center of the top of the frame.
  2. Hand-insert one of the nails provided into the center hole. The tapered hole design will hold the nail in place.
  3. Center the Track Master on your pencil mark with the support track covering the mark. Gently hammer the center nail into the wall.
  4. Insert a bubble-level vial in position in the Track Master if you are going to use it to determine level. Also hand-insert the remaining two nails into the Track Master's outside holes.
  5. Adjust the Track Master to level using the bubble-level vial or use a standard level placed along the top edge of the Track Master.
  6. If you are using the optional plastic anchors & screws, mark, drill and install the plastic anchors at this point (with only one nail installed, the Track Master can be pivoted out the way to do this).
  7. Holding the Track Master against the wall in level position, gently drive the two remaining nails into the wall. Remove the bubble-level vial if used. Install screws if you are using them. The Track Master Hanger is now installed.
HANG FRAME
  1. Holding your metal frame at the sides, position it horizontally to the wall an inch or so above the Track Master support track. Any angle around 45° or so to the wall is fine (see photo).
  2. Keeping the top edge of the frame snug up against the wall, gently slide the frame down until the back channel of the frame's top rail fully engages the Track Master support track and the two parts are mated. Swing the bottom edge of the frame down to the wall.
  3. Adjust the frame side-to-side as necessary by sliding it left or right on the Track Master Hanger.
  4. To remove the frame, first pivot the bottom edge of the frame out and away from the wall, then lift the top edge up and out of the Track Master support track.
