Specifications: Plate Hangers

A plate hanger consists of two W-shaped brass-plated wire brackets that are connected together by two steel coil springs. The hooked ends of the brackets are covered with clear plastic sleeves to protect the plate front surface and edges.

Hanging a plate with a plate hanger is straightforward. Working from the back side of the plate, the hooked ends of one bracket are placed over the edge of the plate, then the hooked ends of the other bracket are placed over the opposite edge. The connecting coil springs hold the brackets in place under tension. The plate then can be hung on a standard picture hook placed in the wall. For full instructions go here.

When a plate is hung on the wall, only the hooked-over tips of the brackets are visible, everything else is hidden behind the plate. See plate hanger front and back views here.

Plate Hangers are available in three sizes:

HWR-113 for plates 5 to 7 inches in diameter

HWR-114 for plates 7 to 10 inches in diameter

HWR-115 for plates 10 to 14 inches in diameter

Please be sure to keep within the above size guidelines when using plate hangers.

If a plate hanger is too loose on a plate, the plate can slip off the hanger. If a plate hanger is too tight on a plate, the plate and/or the hanger can be damaged.

For safety's sake, do not use plate hangers on large, heavy, deep or irregularly shaped plates. Such items are best displayed on easels or special plate shelves.

When stretching plate hangers on a plate, care must be taken not to scratch or otherwise mar the back surface of the plate with the coil springs. If the condition of the back side of a plate is a consideration, or if the plate is very valuable or collectable, it should probably be displayed in another manner.

Please Note

• Plate Hangers are supplied unassembled in order to prevent damage during shipping. It only takes a few seconds to assemble plate hanger brackets and springs (see instructions below).

• A brass-plated wall hook of the appropriate size is included with each plate hanger.

Instructions: Plate Hangers

Assemble the plate hanger by passing the hooked ends of the wire brackets through the ringed ends of the coil springs. The assembled hanger should look like this.

If necessary, determine the top edge of the plate (as it will be seen on the wall).

Lay the plate face down on a cushioned surface.

Place one bracket of the plate hanger over the top edge of the plate so that both hooked ends grab the edge of the plate.

Slowly and evenly stretch the springs until you can hook the both ends of the other bracket over the opposite edge of the plate. Take care not to put too much pressure on the plate while doing this (if you have to exert a lot of pulling effort, stop; you will need to use a larger size plate hanger).

When both hanger brackets are secured, make whatever small adjustments are needed to the bracket positions to create the best fit.

If necessary, bend the center portion of the "W" formed by the top bracket slightly outward from the plate surface so that it can catch and hold a picture hook placed in the wall.

Hammer the picture hook provided into the wall at the desired location.

Hang the plate on the picture hook using the center portion of the top bracket "W" to catch the hook.
