Quick Order Forms for Picture Frame Bumpers
Self-stick picture frame bumpers (pads, dots, cushions) are applied on the back side of frames at the bottom corners, as shown below. Bumpers prevent marring of the wall surface behind the frame. They also permit air circulation around the frame and can help keep pictures level on the wall. We offer two categories of bumpers: felt and polyurethane rubber. The surface of rubber bumpers is somewhat "grippy" (low coefficient of friction) and this feature can help hold hook & wire framed pictures outfitted with rubber bumpers in position on the wall. We offer three rubber bumper designs: a flat type for wood frames, a dome type for metal frames, and a high cylinder type for extra spacing off the wall. In our second category, felt bumpers (often called felt dots or felt pads) serve a similar purpose. They are softer than rubber bumpers and thus more "cushiony." The felt bumper adhesive may stick a little better to a wider range of wood frame surfaces (and wood frame dust-cover paper) than the adhesive on rubber bumpers. Felt bumpers are available in four different diameters for use on different frame sizes. Some professional custom picture framers use either rubber or felt bumpers exclusively in their shops, others stock and use both types according to the situation, so there is no clear consensus within the picture framing industry as to which type is best. In addition to picture framing applications both types of bumpers can be used used for related applications, for example placing them on the bottom surface of heavy or scratchy tabletop objects to prevent damage to the table surface.
